Journey's End
A play by R. C. Sheriff
Set in the British trenches at St. Quentin, France, in March 1918, R. C. Sherriff's powerful and heartbreaking First World War drama, based on his own experiences in the front line, has an ageless quality. Written simply and honestly about life (and death) in the tranches, it still has the power to shock and move audiences.
Second Lieutenant Raleigh arrives in the trenches aged 18 and fresh from public school to join the beleagured 'C' Company led by his one-time school friend and cricketing hero Captain Stanhope. However, in the three days and one dawn which follows, the true horror of the war, and the impact upon those around him, becomes all too clear.
