Spring/Summer 2010

Terry Pratchett’s

WYRD SISTERS

Adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs

Terry Pratchett takes Shakespeare’s Macbeth and then turns it up ‘till the knob comes off. It’s all there – a wicked duke and duchess, the ghost of the murdered king, dim soldiers, strolling players, a land in peril. And who stands between the Kingdom and destruction? Three witches. Granny Weatherwax (intolerant, self opinionated, powerful), Nanny Ogg (down-to-earth, vulgar) and Magrat Garlick (naïve, fond of occult jewellery and bunnies).

ONE O’CLOCK FROM THE HOUSE

A comedy by Frank Vickery

Don’t be concerned that the occasion revolves around the funeral of an elderly father – not usually an occasion for hilarity, but when the family concerned numbers amongst its members, a Wellington clad cook that bakes almondless almond cakes, another who’s convinced his shopping trolley is a clever dog called Rover ( he’s taught him to beg ), and a sister who’s a happy inmate of a psychiatric home, the proceedings are bound to be lively! Add to this a posthumous joke played by father on three of his daughters …….

I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES

A comedy by Neil Simon

Herb, a once successful Hollywood scriptwriter, is having a dry run and his confidence is shaken. He does have some consolation in his off and on relationship with Steffy, a movie make-up woman. Then suddenly he’s confronted with his distant and almost forgotten past in the person of his teenage daughter, Libby, he had simply up and left sixteen years earlier. Libby is extremely confident and articulate and she tells Herb she wants him to get her into “pictures”. How they pick up the pieces of a father daughter relationship is a poignant, tender but nevertheless very funny story.
